Carroll Community College Presents "Proof,"
A Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Play

Carroll Community College will present the play "Proof" in the Theater in the Scott Center on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. The show lasts approximately two hours with intermission. Tickets are $5 per person general admission. Carroll Community College students, faculty, and staff with I.D. are free. Seating is limited. The performance is recommended for mature audiences and not intended for small children.

What is the play about? On the eve of her 25th birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions: the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness-or genius-will she inherit?

"The title of the play "Proof" serves a dual purpose," said Theater Director Bill Gillett. "At its heart, not only is the play about the possible discovery of a sequence that
validates a mathematical proposition, but the play is about Catherine, a young woman who needs to "prove" to herself that she has not inherited the mental instability of her recently deceased father," he said.

"Surrounding these central purposes, a daughter tries to prove her love for her father, a sister tries to prove her validity to her sibling, and more. This is a play about being human, being loved, and being worthy," said Gillett.
