CARROLL COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Sharpen your photography skills and catch all the beauty the spring flora and fauna have to offer…and all of the action of a little league game and the once-in-a-lifetime memories of your summer vacation. Carroll Community College is offering a variety of non-credit photography classes from Operating Your Digital Camera to Travel and Vacation Photography this spring to get you ready to take your best pictures this summer.

Operating Your Digital Camera
You've switched from film to digital photography. Learn how the camera works, distinguish between automatic settings, and determine the best type of settings to use for different situations. Hands-on practice during class provides deeper understanding, familiarity and ease of camera operation. Bring your digital camera and manual to class.

Snapshot Photography

Why did the photo turn out too dark? Learn from examples of everyday photo situations to show how to use the automatic settings on your digital camera. Crafting the Photograph
Learn the basics of 35mm single lens reflex (SLR) photography though hands-on digital and film SLR experiences. You will use your own 35 mm digital or film camera for in- and out-of-class assignments designed to familiarize you with aperture settings and shutter speed, meter functions to determine exposure, lenses and accessories, and how light and composition affect photographs. Note: not for point-and-shoot cameras. Bring your SLR digital or film camera to class and be prepared to take photographs for discussion. Prerequisite: Operating a Digital Camera or basic knowledge of a digital camera.

Applied Photography
Learn how and when to apply basic camera techniques to create accomplished photographs of people, animals, landscapes, plants and still life. Explore depth of field, shutter speed, filters, lenses and more as they apply to the above subjects. Bring your loaded single lens reflex (SLR) digital or 35mm film camera to each class. Prerequisites: Crafting the Photograph, Introduction to Photography, Understanding Digital Photography or a basic photography class or experience with an adjustable camera.

Outdoor Portrait Photography
Discover the techniques used to create beautiful portraits in an outdoor, environmental setting. Learn how to select appropriate portrait locations, taking advantage of natural physical characteristics and lighting angles. Understand the use of depth of field techniques to enhance the subject. Employ camera flash, reflectors, filters and other photographic accessories to create special effects for the best possible image. Prerequisite: Basic Photography or a thorough working knowledge of their film or digital SLR camera is required. Students should bring their camera, a short to medium length telephoto-zoom lens, a tripod and the operation manual.
