Westminster Ballet Theatre Presents
Moscow Ballet Performance at Carroll Community College
On Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m., Carroll Community College will host a performance by ballerina Svetlana Todinova of the Moscow Ballet. The show will take place in the Theater in the Scott Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The Moscow ballerina's solo performance headlines that evening's International Dance Festival, organized and directed by Janette Sullivan of the Westminster Ballet Theatre (WBT). The festival is being hosted and co-sponsored by Carroll Community College. WBT is a professional dance company in residence at the State of the Arts Dance Center at the Westminster regional airport.
The performance is a culmination of two weeks of intensive workshops at the dance center in which the Moscow Ballet ballerina has taught ballet technique, character dance, pointe, and more. Local dancers who have completed the workshops and who represent various levels of ability will also perform along with dancers for the WBT at the evening's event.
"This is a celebration of dance," said Janette Sullivan. "We decided to invite the best ballet company in the world to Westminster, and have been successful in establishing a long-term partnership with the Moscow Ballet and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra."
Sullivan stated: "We both use the same dancing technique, called Vaganova. Moreover, their theaters, sets, and costumes are historically of the highest quality. The choreography is a century old, and respected and admired around the globe."
