Carroll Community College Receives $45,000 Grant to Benefit Students

First Financial of Maryland Federal Credit Union recently awarded a $45,000 grant to benefit the students of Carroll Community College in Westminster, Maryland.  This is the third grant made by First Financial of Maryland FCU to Carroll Community College in the last ten years, totaling $100,000.

The Carroll Community College Foundation, Inc. will use the grant to support three different initiatives.  Through this grant, Carroll Community College will establish two full, need-based scholarships for the next five years, for students pursuing an Associate Arts of Teaching degree.  A portion of the grant will be used to continue support of the First Financial Federal Credit Union Child Care Fee Assistance Fund.  This fund provides annual grants to financially deserving parents of students enrolled in the Child Development Center.  Funds will also be directed to the First Financial Federal Credit Union Equipment Fund to provide annual grants to purchase equipment and education materials within the Child Development Center.

Funding for this grant was made possible through First Financial's Visa credit card program and the KidsFirst Fund.  Through the KidsFirst Fund, a portion of all member purchases made with a First Financial Visa credit card is directed to benefit children in the Credit Union community. Previous KidsFirst Fund donations have included funding to assist Carroll County Public School students who are underinsured or have no health insurance, and are in need of health care services; a Technology Grant to Baltimore County Public Schools for computer equipment for classrooms; and funding to support the Baltimore County Dental Sealant Program for second and third graders within Baltimore County Public Schools.  First Financial also annually awards college scholarships to deserving high school seniors within the Credit Union's field of membership.  Since the Programs' inception in 1989, First Financial FCU has donated more than $1.2 million to benefit children in need.
First Financial of Maryland Federal Credit Union is the Credit Union for the Baltimore and Carroll County Public School systems (employees, students & their parents) as well as many private schools, colleges and businesses in the Baltimore and Carroll County areas.  Established in 1953, First Financial FCU currently serves more than 52,000 members, with nine branch locations.
