Dr. Faye Pappalardo Receives Award for Staff Development Initiatives at Carroll Community College
At Carroll Community College (Carroll), students are not the only ones who are encouraged to expand their knowledge base through exploration of new subject areas. Faculty, staff, and administrators are also encouraged to pursue professional development through a series of workshops and special events held at the college each semester.
The emphasis on staff development comes directly from College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo, who recently won an award for her initiatives. Dr. Pappalardo received the College President's/Chancellor's Award from the National Council for Staff, Program, and Organizational Development (NCSPOD).
The organization, an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, presented the award at a special ceremony at its annual conference held Nov. 10 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Dr. Sherry Glass, executive assistant to the president, accepted the award on behalf of Dr. Pappalardo. Dr. Pappalardo was selected from an international pool of American and Canadian candidates.
"I am honored and pleased to receive this award for outstanding leadership in staff development," said Dr. Pappalardo. "To me, staff development is a number one priority. I believe it is vital to the college community, in order to fulfill our college mission."
Each semester, Carroll employees are invited to participate in free lectures, seminars, workshops, and field trips that address teaching/learning; cultural/global awareness; leadership development; technology; health/wellness; and other general topics. The college surveys staff for areas of interest and are asked to evaluate the program each year.
Carroll has 201 full-time permanent and temporary employees. The current staff development program started in 1999.
Carroll is located at 1601 Washington Rd. in Westminster, Md.
