College Celebrates U.S. Constitution Day

Carroll Community College Celebrates U.S. Constitution Day
In observance of a federal law that requires most colleges to celebrate the ratification of the Constitution of the United States, Carroll Community College (will sponsor a panel discussion on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Theater in the Scott Center at 1601 Washington Rd., Westminster. The event is free and open to the community.
Carroll plans to celebrate the U.S. Constitution with an evening panel discussion featuring the Honorable Frederic N. Smalkin, United States District Court Judge for the District of Maryland; David Copperthite, assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland and adjunct professor at Carroll; and Jon Van Hoven, a criminal defense attorney. They will discuss their roles in the criminal justice system, specifically with regards to the Constitution. They will also answer questions that were submitted by students at Carroll Community College. Katharine Potter, retired assistant state's attorney and adjunct professor at Carroll, will moderate the event.
A limited number of pocket copies of the Constitution will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
