CARROLL COMMUNITY COLLEGE OFFERS WRITING COURSES IN OCTOBER

Explore your creativity and fine tune your writing technique this fall with a writing course at Carroll Community College. Three courses offer something for all skill levels in three genres - writing for children, poetry and journal writing.

NEW! Children's Writer's Discussion Group
So many writers work in a vacuum, spending hours alone at their desk, wishing for feedback. Here's an opportunity to change all that!  A discussion group led by children's author, Lois Szymanski offers an opportunity for writers of stories for children to read their work aloud in a group setting. Class participants will learn common mistakes made by new writers, how to develop an ear for problems in plotting, characterization, descriptions, beginnings and endings, and more. They will learn how to critique each other out loud in class, improving their critiquing skills along with their writing skills. Instructor: Lois Szymanski
Cost: $80 (MD Senior Adults: $80)
Course #: XXZ196A2
Mon., Oct. 2 - Nov. 20, 6:30 - 8 p.m. (8 sessions)
Westminster Branch of the Carroll County Public Library

NEW! Poetry Workshop: Awakening Your Muse
Experience the multi-faceted art of poetry. This six week course will include reading and discussing poems that "work," reviewing major poetic forms and tools, and writing and sharing original poems. Students will be asked to keep a poetry journal and share original works in class. Course is open to all experience levels. Instructor: Kevin Thornton
