Periodic Review Report Commended by Accrediting Body
Carroll Community College's self-evaluation of its success in meeting standards of learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness has received high marks from the regional credentialing body, the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (Middle States). The college received the response from Middle States in an August letter.
The college was first accredited in 1996. It was reaccredited for a ten-year period in 2001. In June, 2006, five years later, the college followed a Middle States requirement to submit a Periodic Review Report detailing the college's progress to date. The focus of this report is to make a case for how the college meets Middle States' "Characteristics of Excellence," which emphasizes student learning outcomes. In order to receive a favorable response from Middle States about the Periodic Review Report, the college must demonstrate it has a comprehensive assessment plan and is moving towards its goals.
"The college received many commendations on its effectiveness as an institution of higher education," said Judith Ann Coen, chairperson of Mathematics, Sciences, Health, and Wellness at Carroll. "The reviewers of the report commended the president, trustees, faculty, and staff for serious and ongoing commitment to meeting characteristics of excellence. Middle States also commended the college for its fiscal strength, evident in its efficient use of funding. The report ensures the college is accountable for quality student learning and for responsible use of public funds. The reviewers offered no recommendations for improvement," she said.
"I am delighted the college received commendations from the reviewers of the Periodic Review Report," said Dr. Faye Pappalardo, president of the college. "I wish to thank the committee of faculty and staff who assembled the report in a professional and timely fashion."
Carroll Community College is located at 1601 Washington Rd. in Westminster, Md.
