Carroll Community College Holds Animal Control Officer
Certificate Completion Ceremony
Carroll Community College celebrated the accomplishments of 13 individuals who completed the East Coast Animal Control Officer Academy. A pinning ceremony was held Oct. 13, 2006 at the Police Safety Education and Training Center in Sykesville.
The Academy, created by Carroll Community College's Continuing Education & Training in 2003, along with state and national humane organizations, provides training to animal control officers who work for humane societies, animal shelters, and police departments. The Academy serves the East Coast and offers 90 hours of training.
The course offers updated skills training in areas such as disease recognition, federal wildlife laws and permits, field officer safety, and more. Animal Control Officers interface with local communities regarding issues with animals. They perform everything from animal rescue to interventions with problem situations.
The course on-site coordinator was Carolyn Mudano.
The following students received certificates: Jermaine Barnes and Robert Hudnall, both of Baltimore City; Hattie Gasser and Melissa Rippin, both of Caroline County; Catherine Sullivan of Claremont, N.H.; Karen Harris of Harford County; Sheri Fox and Lisa Wilkins, both of Howard County; Edward Birkmire of Kent County; Paul Howard of Lumber Ridge, N.C.; Shannon Williams of Prince George's County; Christian Wilson of Queen Anne County; and Donald Spence of Worcester County.
