Carroll Community College Announces Two New Art Exhibits

Westminster, Md., — Carroll Community College (Carroll) hosts art exhibitions in a variety of media and styles by students and regionally and nationally-celebrated visual artists. The college also hosts opening receptions for selected exhibitions, which are open to the public and college community.

“Tammy Thompson: Behind the Lens” will open in the Great Hall on Sunday, Oct. 20 and will continue through Friday, Nov. 22. Thompson is an award-winning photographer as Maryland’s Photographer of the Year. She is passionate about most things in life: photography, health, fitness, and close personal relationships. She is a car accident survivor who has learned to overcome the impossible and create hope inside when the future seemed hopeless. Out of those dark years emerged a strong, driven and grateful woman who inspires others with her photography. She has been a digital editor for 13 years and a professional photographer since 2004.

“Joseph Paul Cassar: Recent Works on Paper” will open in the Gallery in the Scott Center on Sunday, Oct. 20 and will continue through Friday, Nov. 22. Cassar is interested in the relationships and fusion of form and color to create harmonious compositions. His art exploits the separate identity of shapes and their effect on neighboring elements. He doesn’t work with preconceived ideas, but allows the work to develop as an intimate encounter. Cassar has multiple degrees including a Ph.D. from the University of Malta, has taught for 28 years at many institutions in the U.S. and Europe, served on the International Baccaulaureate Committee, and is a man of many interests and talents.

The opening reception for both exhibits will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2-4 p.m. The reception for Thompson will be held in the Great Hall. The reception for Cassar will be held in the Gallery in the Scott Center.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information about art exhibitions at Carroll, please call Maggie Ball at 410-386-8256 or e-mail mball@carrollcc.edu.
