Carroll Community College to Present “Our Town” in Regional Theater Festival
Westminster, Md., —The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) has invited Carroll Community College (Carroll) to present its production of “Our Town” at its annual regional gathering of over 1000 theater students from community and four-year colleges. The festival will be held in West Chester, Pa. from January 14 to 18, 2014.
Carroll was chosen from among dozens of colleges from Maryland, Pennsylvania, D.C., West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Northern Virginia and New York. Over the past ten years, only three other community college productions have been chosen be presented at the festival.
“Our Town” is a theater classic tale about life and love. The play is a timeless drama of a mythical village of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. The production has become an American tradition with universal appeal.
“Our Town” appeared on Broadway in 1938 to wide acclaim and won the Pulitzer Prize.
“I am exceedingly proud of our excellent college theatre department that helps to make Carroll a cultural destination for performing arts,” said Carroll President Dr. Faye Pappalardo.
“It is wonderful to be recognized on a regional level among our higher education peers for the outstanding talents of our students,” said Chair of Performing Arts William Gillett. “We will have to organize all of the participants in the show, rehearse the play, and make plans for transporting actors, equipment, and materials to the festival.”
Carroll will present “Our Town” during a special fundraising performance on Jan. 13, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the college theater. Admission is $5 and donations are welcome to help support the expenses of the trip to the West Chester, Pa. festival.
