Emergencies Prevention
The College provides several measures to prevent emergencies from occurring.
Keep yourself and your property safe by practicing these safety tips:
- Use the buddy system and walk with a friend to your car, or contact a Campus Police Officer to escort you to your car.
- Have your key ready as you walk to your car.
- Look around, under and inside your car before you unlock it.
- After entering, lock the doors immediately.
- Never open your door to strangers.
- Do not hitchhike or pick up hitchhikers.
- Be aware of the people around you.
- Lock valuables in your trunk.
- Always remove the keys from your vehicle and lock the doors when it is unattended.
Campus Police Officers are on campus whenever the College is open. You may request a security escort to your vehicle by contacting the Information Center or by dialing (410) 386-8123
Do not leave valuable articles unattended. Keep possessions with you and within your sight at all times. Keep your car doors locked and your valuables out of sight or stored in the trunk of your vehicle.
If a theft occurs, notify Campus Police by calling x8123 or 410-386-8123 as soon as possible.
The College has security cameras strategically located inside and outside of the buildings, which are monitored by Security.

Thank you for visiting the Carroll Community College Campus Police website. I hope you take a few minutes to explore the information it contains. Our mission is to “Serve and protect in order to establish a safe and secure learning environment for all members of the Carroll community, as well as visitors to the College; protect physical assets of the College in accordance with Maryland and County laws, using sound security principles; ensure that the rules and regulations of the College are upheld and equitably enforced; and support the mission of the College.” Carroll Community College offers many resources and programs to complement the mission of the Campus Police. We are committed to the concept of community policing and work diligently to develop and maintain partnerships, both on and off campus, to improve the quality of life for the members of our campus and the entire Carroll County community.

Chief Brian Lintz
Carroll Community College’s Campus Police is staffed by highly trained personnel including seven full-time, sworn special police officers and several part-time special police officers and public safety officers. All sworn Special Police personnel have successfully completed either a certified basic police academy or special police officer academy and have satisfied the requirements to be state-appointed as Special Police Officers. They are sworn in through the jurisdictional circuit court and are empowered to enforce all state and local laws on campus and adjacent properties. They have full authority to arrest and carry firearms. All officers are certified in first aid/CPR/AED and can provide quick medical attention on campus whenever needed.
Officers respond to, investigate and report all crimes and incidents for proper action. To prevent crime and enforce College policies, officers provide routine vehicle and foot patrols, enforce parking regulations, issue parking citations and provide escort service for individuals to vehicles when required or requested.
The College publishes an Annual Security Report, available by October 1 of each calendar year, in support of and pursuant to 20 United States Code section 1092(f), the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
The Campus Police Office is located in A137 of the A Building and can be reached by calling 410-386-8123. The department is led by Chief Brian Lintz.
- Dial 8123 from a classroom or hallway telephone for any police service on campus.
- Call 410-386-8123 from an external phone.
- For non-emergencies, call 410-386-8123 during regular office hours or 410-386-8000 after hours.
- In the parking lot, call 410-386-8123 and use the “Help Locator” signs to report your location to the call taker.
The college’s emergency notification system, e2Campus, instantly and simultaneously provides time-sensitive emergency alerts and school closings/inclement weather announcements to all registered mobile phones, pagers, and e-mail addresses.
e2Campus messages can also be retrieved from Facebook and Twitter or any other social networking site.
Students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to register for e2Campus.
Please note that inclement weather closings and late starts affect only on-campus and synchronous Teams courses. Asynchronous courses are not affected.
Tornado Alert / Siren
The college has an outdoor warning notification system. A siren sounds in the event of a tornado or other severe weather when seeking immediate shelter is recommended. An announcement will also be made over the college’s PA system and on e2Campus.
In such an event, the campus community should seek shelter in a “Severe Weather Area Shelter” and close all doors to stairwells, interior hallways, rooms and bathrooms. Stay away from and do not open windows and exterior doors.
If in a vehicle, get out and seek shelter in a sturdy building. Do not drive or try to outrun a tornado. If a building is not available, a depression such as a ditch or ravine offers some protection.

The purpose of developing this Emergency Operations Plan is to define and describe actions to be taken by the Carroll community to effectively prepare for, respond to, mitigate and recover from various critical incidents, major events, emergencies or disasters that may affect lives, property and the College.
