General Education Course
Lifetime Fitness and Wellness introduces the student to the fundamental relationship between physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The theoretical components of fitness, principles of training, individual pre/post assessments, and prescription exercise programs are examined. Varied physical activity media are introduced to give the student practical experiences with the ultimate goal of self-directed lifetime wellness. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of READ-101. Credit by exam available. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours. Additional $50 fee. GENERAL EDUCATION
Course Objectives Each student will demonstrate the ability to:
1. Articulate the relationship of physical fitness to a healthy lifestyle, and apply the components of fitness and training.
2. Evaluate his/her current level of wellness/fitness at the beginning and end of the course.
3. Establish fitness/wellness goals and develop lifestyle strategies for improvement.
4. Demonstrate the concept of progressive overload during strength and aerobic workouts.
5. Produce an educational fitness newsletter/pamphlet with cited scientific references. 6. Demonstrate effective psychosocial skills in classroom participation.
