Course Description
CIS-101, Introduction to Computers and Computing, is designed for students interested in computer careers or transfer to four-year institutions. Computers are studied in depth to familiarize the student with the theoretical and applied principles of hardware, software, and data communications. Laboratory sessions introduce the student to the use of the computer, selected popular software packages, and the Internet. The application of computers in business and careers is also examined. The course assumes minimal experience with computers. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of READ-091 and MAT-097. CLEP exam is available. Two hours lecture, two hours laboratory each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.
