Course Description

OFFC-205, Advanced Word, advances students' ability to create and enhance text-based documents while using Microsoft Word software. Students use introductory skills to apply advanced skills to format advanced tables, create mass mailings and forms, customize the ribbon, create digital signatures, work with long documents including indexes and table of contents, integrate other programs such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and use macros. It is suggested that students possess basic technology skills to be successful in this course. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of OFFC-115. Three lecture hours each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.

Course Objectives and Grading Information

OBJECTIVES:
1.Use advanced table features using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include: create and insert custom table styles, merge, split and position text within cells, sort and calculate data within tables, draw freeform and convert text to tables, insert nested tables, and insert Excel spreadsheets. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #3)
2.Create mass mailings for letters and postcards using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include: merge Excel and Access data sources with Word, and create, filter, sort, and edit data sources. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #3)
3.Create standardized forms using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include: create customized forms, insert content controls and set properties, protect documents and restrict editing, create custom tabs, and create digital signatures. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #3)
4.Work with long documents using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include: create and manage master and subdocuments, create reference guides including indexes, table of contents and figures, and control the format and flow of pages and text. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #3)
5.Embed and link objects and implement macros using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include: embed and link Excel charts and files, Access tables, PP files and Word files, and create, edit and use macros. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #3)
6.Integrate Word with PowerPoint using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include: use outlines in Word to create, modify and Publish PowerPoint presentations. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #3)
