Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Apprenticeship
HVACR apprentices are tradesmen specializing in heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration systems. Work may include installing, servicing and repairing heating and air conditioning systems in residences and commercial establishments. Apprentices usually begin by assisting experienced technicians with such tasks as carrying materials, insulating refrigerant lines or cleaning furnaces. In time, they move on to more difficult tasks such as cutting and soldering pipes and checking electrical and electronic circuits. This trade is regulated by the State of Maryland and the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council formulates apprenticeship policies and registers standards.
To register for apprenticeship training, you must be employed by a licensed HVACR company and be sponsored by that company for training or find employment by the start of the second year. You must also be at least 18 years of age and have good reading and writing skills and computer experience.
