Students attending Carroll Community College may be eligible for one or more of the numerous grants and scholarships sponsored by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). Applicants (and their parents, if applicable) must be Maryland residents to receive financial assistance from MHEC except for the Nonresident Tuition Reduction Program for Nursing. A recipient must enroll as a degree-seeking student in a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university. Enrollment requirements vary by program. Awards are made directly to the student from the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) at MHEC unless otherwise noted. OSFA applications can be obtained at MHEC .
Applicants must be high school seniors who complete a college preparatory program or technical preparatory program with an unweighted cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.500 or better. The recipient must be full-time student. The 2007-2008 awards range from $400 to $14,300 and are renewable if eligibility criteria continue to be met and the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.
The applicant should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Guaranteed Access Grant application by March 1. Guaranteed Access Grant Applications received after March 1 are considered as long as funding is available.

This program provides assistance to full-time or part-time students who are dependents of deceased or 100% disabled members of the U.S. Armed Forces, dependents of deceased victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and dependents of deceased public safety employees or volunteers who were killed in the line of duty. Awards cover tuition and fees not to exceed $8,550 and may be renewed. The deadline to submit the Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship application is July 15.
Funding for this program is provided to Maryland institutions to award students who demonstrate financial need and enroll for 6 to 11 credit hours. The 2007-2008 awards of $200 to $1,500 are based on availability of funds at the institution and may or may not be renewed each year.
This competitive program has three categories: Academic Achievement, National Merit Scholarship and National Achievement, and Talent in the Arts. High school juniors may apply or be nominated by their high school. The annual $3,000 award is renewable if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility criteria. This new program provides financial assistance to full-time or part-time students under the following programs: Child Care Provider Scholarship; Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, Child Welfare & Juvenile Justice Workforce Tuition Assistance Program; Distinguished Scholar Teacher Education; Sharon Christa McAuliffe Memorial Teacher Education Scholarship; State Nursing Scholarship; Physical and Occupational Therapists and Assistants Grant; and William Donald Schaefer Scholarship. This program provides funds to undergraduate nursing students who are not residents of Maryland but attend a Maryland two-year or four-year public institution. Awards are not based on need, but require an employment service obligation in Maryland. The Nonresident Tuition Reduction and State Aid Program for Nursing Students application must be completed and submitted to the financial aid office at the student's institution of attendance.
