Internships - Planning Process

  1. Research internships at internships.com, idealist.org and careerbuilder.com. Also, consider brainstorming ideas with faculty or contact the Coordinator of Service-Learning and Internships.
  2. Choose an internship that corresponds to your program of study, interests or career goals.
  3. Plan a meeting/interview with the Coordinator of Service-Learning and Internships. Bring your resume.
  4. Consider who you would like to be your faculty sponsor and provide this information to the Coordinator of Service-Learning and Internships.
  5. Your faculty sponsor request is submitted to his/her department chair for approval.
  6. Upon approval, you are assigned a faculty sponsor. For summer internships, be sure to get a faculty sponsor prior to the end of the Spring Term.
  7. Meet your faculty sponsor to create the Internship Course Agreement (ICA), which contains the course outline and learning goals.
  8. The faculty sponsor submits the ICA to his/her department chair or dean for approval.
  9. After approval, the ICA is returned to you.
  10. Provide the signed and completed ICA to the Coordinator of Service-Learning for final signature.
  11. After the Coordinator of Service-Learning has reviewed the documents and signatures, take the ICA to the Registrar’s Office and follow registration and payment processes and deadlines.
