Press Release:

The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) student honor society at Carroll Community College (Carroll) has received much-deserved recognition as a 2017 REACH Chapter from the national PTK organization.

Last year, the national PTK office launched REACH Rewards, a program designed to acknowledge chapters that excel in the area of membership development. This prestigious recognition is for chapters that aggressively promote the benefits of membership, which include scholarships and opportunities for engagement with peers and faculty members.

The Carroll Community College chapter-- Alpha Psi Psi—will receive graduation gown stoles for its members. In a letter from the PTK President and CEO, Lynn Tincher-Ladner, Ph.D. said: “We send these stoles for members to keep as a celebration of the milestone of college completion, while also encouraging them to serve as role models to other students.”

“I extend my sincere congratulations on this recognition of Alpha Psi Psi’s hard work and their excellent membership development program,” said College President Dr. James D. Ball. “Such recognition is evidence of our students’ strong commitment to making a difference. I applaud our students for their commitment to building our honors community at Carroll.”

PTK Advisor Josiah Guthland said: “Student Thomas Putman currently serves as the chairman of Public Relations for the Alpha Psi Psi chapter. In this role, he has increased student attendance to honor events by using a targeted marketing campaign to eligible honor society students. He coordinated, planned and implemented a social media and e-mail campaign that raised membership. This led to our chapter being named as a 2017 REACH Chapter and receiving special recognition from the President and CEO of PTK.”

PTK student member Katelyn Skelton said, “I am really excited about this honor from the national office. Thomas has worked very hard and done a great job getting the benefits of PTK out to the student body. Once people hear about the scholarship money available to PTK students, they can’t wait to join up!”
