Carroll’s Sciences and Mathematics Academic Research Team (SMART) offers a collaborative, unique hands-on undergraduate research experience working with a chemistry and engineering project. The research experience is provided through two credit courses:
The SMART Scholars program allows for independent learning from hybrid courses, courses that combine online and on-campus learning, and teamwork with other students. Student teamwork focuses on skills that are necessary for scientific inquiry process such as reviewing literature, writing scientific summaries, communicating effectively in team meetings, and conducting hands-on research projects.
As a SMART Scholar, you will also have opportunities to interact with STEM professionals, participate in professional development workshops, and offer your expertise through a service-learning project.
A recognition ceremony is held at the end of the term for you and your team to share your research findings and experience.
Become a SMART Scholar
To become a SMART Scholar you need to submit a completed SMART Scholars application and meet the following requirements:
- Completed at least one term at Carroll.
- Completed at least one college-level engineering, mathematics or chemistry course with a grade B or higher.
- Possess an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher.
