Service-Learning - Volunteer Opportunities
The Student Life Office offers a variety of service-learning opportunities for students throughout the year. The length of service varies for each site and event.

Fall 2014 Opportunities
Friday, Sept. 26
8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m
SERRV International is a nonprofit organization with a mission to eradicate poverty wherever it resides by providing support to artisans and farmers worldwide.This service opportunity allows you to learn about Fair Trade and package handmade items from all over the world.
There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity. Sign up online.
iServe Trip to Chester River: A Service and Leadership Retreat
Friday and Saturday, Oct.3 and 4
Join us on a service and leadership retreat to the Echo Hill Outdoor School on the Eastern Shore. Participate in outdoor adventures, test your leadership skills and help promote stewardship of Maryland’s most valuable watershed with an environmental service project. This overnight retreat requires a non-refundable $25 fee. Sign up in the Student Life Office or online by Friday, Sept. 19.
iServe Trip to Copper Ridge
2:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Join us for an afternoon at Copper Ridge, an organization that serves people in our senior community who may be dealing with memory loss or memory impairment. We will be helping the residents carve pumpkins for Halloween! There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity.Sign up online.
iServe Trip to First Fruits Farm
8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Help harvest fresh fruits and vegetables to provide healthy and nutritious meals to individuals in need! The Fresh Fruits Farm is located in Freeland, MD. Transportation and lunch are provided. There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity. Sign up online.
iServe Event: Zombie 5k
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Take on a Zombie role while helping to raise funds for the Washington Road Trail! Volunteers are needed during this 5k to act as race marshals as well as Zombies! Sign up in Student Life (A118). Sign up online.
Friday, Nov. 21, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
This workshop allows participants to assume the roles of mid to low-income family members living on a limited budget. The simulation creates awareness for participants who serve clients within this population, and helps them gain a better understanding of the systems that the clients have to navigate to survive.

iServe Trip to the Cold Weather Shelter
Tuesday, Nov. 25
6 - 8 p.m.
The Cold Weather Shelter is located in Westminster and provides lodging for men and women from November through March. Volunteers are expected to contribute a food item towards a meal to serve to the shelter clients that night. There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity. Sign up online.

Monday, Dec. 1
2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Join us for an afternoon at Copper Ridge, an organization that serves people in our senior community who may be dealing with memory loss or memory impairment. We will be helping the residents create Christmas ornaments! There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity. Sign up online.
iServe Event: Neighbors in Need
Friday, Dec. 5
Various times from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The Holiday Program of Neighbors in Need helps Carroll County residents provide holiday presents for their family. Families in need are able to shop, at no cost, in the Holiday Shop. Stop by the Student Life Office to volunteer some time at the shop! There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity. Sign up online.
iServe Trip to the Hill Family Center Y
Saturday, Dec. 13
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Join us at the Hill Family Center Y for their annual Holiday Breakfast. There will be a visit from Santa and an opportunity for you to help with lots of fun holiday crafts and games. There is a $5 refundable deposit for this service opportunity. Sign up online.
