Home Improvement Contractors must have practical work experience in the construction trades such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. They also must know and understand the Maryland Home Improvement Law and the Door-to-Door Sales Act. As small businesspersons, they are responsible for business planning, start-up and operating practices, sales and estimating. Contractors must obtain a Home Improvement License to practice in Maryland.
