    What to Do if You Have Tested Positive for COVID-19 / Have Symptoms; or Been Exposed to Someone Who Tested Positive for COVID-19; or Travel Out of State

    CarrollCommunity College COVID-19 Screening Information for Students & Employees

    **All Informationin this Document Applies Even If You’ve Been Fully Vaccinated**

    DO NOT COMETO CAMPUS IF YOU:

    • If you are ill or have had a positive viral (PCR) test for COVID; or
    • Had close contact, as defined by the CDC, as “someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period* starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated” regardless of whether cloth face coverings were worn https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/contact-tracing/contact-tracing-plan/appendix.html#contact; or
    • Received a call from a Health Department Contact Tracer; or
    • Have a temperature reading of 100.4 or higher or have other COVID-19 symptoms; or
    • Have traveled to a state with a Positivity Rate of 10% or above or a Case Rate per 100,000 of 20 or higher or have hosted guests from a “red zone” state (excluding those living in Pennsylvania), you must quarantine for 14 days, regardless of a negative test result.
    • *Whether you are out of school due to isolation or quarantine (being sick, having a positive COVID test, or being exposed to someone with COVID) you may return in-person to campus only once the following College personnel has cleared you

    *Insome instances, you may be required to provide a release note from yourhealthcare provider or the Health Department before you can be cleared toreturn to campus.  This includes co-curricularactivities.

    What should I do if I have tested positive for COVID or have symptoms?

    1. Seek emergency medical careimmediately if you have any of the following symptoms: Trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, confusion, bluish lips or face.
    2. If your symptoms or elevated temperature begin while you’re already on campus, you will be required to leave campus immediately. (Emergency medical attention will be called by your instructor or Campus Police if you have the symptoms noted in #1 above).
    3. Contact your health care provider for guidance on possible next steps and testing. Some COVID-19 symptoms may include, but are not limited to: New loss of taste or smell, Fever or chills, Unexplained Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Unexplained Headache, Sore throat, Unexplained Congestion or runny nose, Diarrhea, Nausea or vomiting.
    4. You are encouraged to contact the Carroll County Health Department’s COVID-19 Call Center 410-876-4848 for general information. You may also visit: https://cchd.maryland.gov/.
    5. Notification: Students should contact all instructors and advise them that they will not be able to attend in-person instruction or training.
      • Students should also email Dr. DaVida Anderson, Director of Student Care & Integrity at danderson3@carrollcc.edu.
      • Employees should contact their direct supervisor as well as Human Resources at HR@carrollcc.edu
    6. If you are ill or have had a positive viral (PCR) test for COVID, you must isolate at home until:
      • It has been 10 days since you first became ill or had your positive test; AND
      • You have not had a fever for 24 hours (without the use of medication) and all of your other symptoms are improving; AND
      • You are cleared to return to campus by the following College personnel:
      • Students:  Dr. DaVida Anderson at danderson3@carrollcc.edu
      • Employees:  Human Resources at  HR@carrollcc.edu
        *In some instances, you may berequired to submit a release note from your healthcare provider or the HealthDepartment before you can be cleared to return to campus.  This includes co-curricular activities.

    What should I do if I have been exposed to someone who tested positivefor COVID?

    5. If you have had close contact as defined in the second bullet above, with a person who is exhibiting COVID related symptoms, and/or has had a positive COVID test, you must quarantine for 14 days since the last time you were in contact with that person. The Carroll County Health Department has recommended that testing occur no sooner than 5 days after exposure.  Additional information on quarantine is available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/quarantine.html.
    6. Notification: Students should contact all instructors and advise them that they will not be able to attend in-person instruction or training.

      • Employees should contact their direct supervisor as well as Human Resources at HR@carrollcc.edu

    What should I do if I plan to travel out of state?

    1. If you travel to a state with a Positivity Rate of 10% or above or a Case Rate per 100,000 of 20 or higher or have hosted guests from a “red zone” state (excluding those living in Pennsylvania), you mustquarantine for
      14 days, regardless of a negative test result.
    2. Notification: Students should contact all instructors and advise them that they will not be able to attend in-person instruction or training.

  • Spring Break Message to Students - March 9, 2021


    Hello Lynx,

    We are nearing the halfway mark in our Spring semester, and that means that Spring Break is on the horizon! I’m sure that you are looking forward to a well-deserved break. While you enjoy your time away from scheduled classes, I hope that you will make time to prioritize your mental health and self-care. Spring Break is a great time to explore new ways to relax, safely connect with friends, and spend time outdoors. Hopefully we’ll have some spring-like weather to enjoy!

    I offer a few COVID-19 safety reminders as we approach Spring Break:

    • You are safer enjoying Spring Break at home than traveling out of state.
    • Limit travel to essential purposes only, and avoid traveling to states in the Red Zone that have a Positivity Rate of 10% or above or that have a Case Rate of 20 per 100K or above.

    • In accordance with the Governor’s Amended Directives and in coordination with the Carroll County Health Department, if you travel to a state in the Red Zone, you need to get a COVID-19 test after traveling, but no longer need to get a health provider’s release note.
    • Continue to notify Dr. DaVida Anderson ( DAnderson3@carrollcc.edu) of your COVID-19 test results prior to returning to campus.
    • If you are asymptomatic after your trip, you can choose to self-quarantine for 10 days instead of getting a COVID test.
    • Discuss your travel plans with your instructors prior to traveling to ensure a safe return to the College campus.
    • Even though vaccines are becoming more widely available, the College still has mandatory masks and social distancing guidelines in place. We all want to keep the campus open and safe, so everyone’s adherence to our guidelines is essential. 
    • Our expectation is that you will remain diligent in filling out the Daily Campus Check-In Form. 

    Though we can begin to imagine a time when things will get back to “normal” on campus, we aren’t there yet. For your safety and the safety of your family and friends, please remain committed to our protocols, even if you have been vaccinated, until we have further direction from state and local health officials.

    INFORMATION ON GETTING A VACCINE
    For Information on getting a vaccine visit the Carroll County Health Department (CCHD) https://cchd.maryland.gov/covid-19-vaccination/

    PRIOR TO COMING BACK TO CAMPUS
    To ensure the safety of all who enter our campus, we are providing information on COVID-19 testing in Carroll County. We encourage you to schedule an appointment to get tested. The test is currently FREE of charge, however the Maryland Department of Health is considering the need for test sites to request insurance information.
    The Carroll County Health Department (CCHD) is offering the COVID-19 tests at the Ag Center located at 706 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster, MD. Individuals should call 410-876-4848 to schedule an appointment or to ask any questions that you may have. Or, you may simply go to the CCHD website at https://cchd.maryland.gov/covid-19-testing-in-carroll-county/ to schedule a test.
    Please note that only Carroll County residents can sign up for testing through the CCHD website. Out of County residents should visit the Maryland State Health Department website for more information, https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/pages/symptoms-testing. You can also check with your health care provider’s office, pharmacy, or urgent care center to see if they offer testing.

    Test Results may take up to 7 days or longer, so please keep that in mind when scheduling your test. Positive Results are first sent to the Health Department for contact tracing. If the CCHD contact tracer reaches out to you, please let the tracer know that you are a student or employee of the College so that the CCHD can inform the College’s single point-of-contact, Trish Carroll our Chief Communications Officer, so that appropriate safety measures can be taken to minimize the risk to the College community. The name of the student or employee who tests positive or is contacted by a contact tracer will be limited to a need to know basis within the College.
