STEM Scholars Program

  • Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Honors Program

  • STEM Scholars annual program is designed for motivated high school and college students who want to pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and transfer to a four-year institution after completion of their associate degree at Carroll Community College.

    This honors program emphasizes hands-on research, professional development, and transfer preparation.

    STEM Scholars program features: 

    • Cohort Model
      Progress through the program with a group of 20 high-achieving students while having the flexibility to take appropriate courses for your program of study.
    • One-on-One Advising
      Receive direction and guidance from your academic adviser, who is by your side from your first course all the way to graduation. 
    • A Dedicated Faculty Mentor
      Get the personalized guidance you need to strengthen your research skills and develop as a STEM Scholar.
    • Guaranteed Scholarship

      STEM Scholars receive $2000 covering 3.5 credits of STEM Scholar courses. The remaining amount can be applied toward other classes at Carroll or as a transfer scholarship. 

    • Free Research Course
      Get reimbursement for the high-impact, rich, authentic and interdisciplinary undergraduate research course (2 credits)
    • Professional Development
      Take part in three complimentary seminar courses (0.5 credits each) where you will listen to industry guest speakers, create your resume, and explore career and job opportunities.
    • Transfer Planning
      Participate in road trips to STEM industry and four-year transfer institutions. Receive help with planning your transfer to four-year schools from filling out applications to finding and applying for scholarships.

  • Admissions Requirements

    • High school and college students with a cumulative of GPA 3.00 with no more than 30 college credits prior to the start of the academic year.
    • Students must be college ready and have no requirement to complete any developmental courses at Carroll Community College.
    • Placed into credit bearing courses through Carroll Community College’s placement test (mathematics, reading and English), or SAT or AP scores, or Completed required developmental courses at the College. 

    How to Apply

    Mail the following items to:

    1. Completed STEM Scholars application
    2. Unofficial high school transcript and college transcript (latter if applicable) 
    3. Official AP, SAT or ACT scores (if any) 
    4. Recommendation letter from a teacher, guidance counselor or college faculty if applicable (optional but recommended)
    5. Students’ course load, academic achievement, extracurricular and leadership activities are strong factors in the admissions process

    Applicationswill be received and reviewed till seats in the program are filled. 

    Financial Aid for STEM Scholars

    All students are encouraged to apply for a scholarship to the STEM Scholars Program and for other types of student financial aid. The Financial Aid Program at Carroll Community College is designed to assist eligible students in meeting their College-related expenses. Financial assistance is provided through scholarships, grants, and employment opportunities. Financial need is determined through a careful review of all information supplied on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be completed online at
