Pay Grade:                5  ($14.41 per hour)

JOB SUMMARY

The advising assistant will work in the outer area of the advising office, work with students, and help with the management of office activities as directed. This position reports to the Director of Advising and Transfer. Work hours may vary <29 hours per week.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Help students successfully log into web advisor prior to advising meetings
  • Help students create a class schedule after meeting with an advisor, help troubleshoot student log in issues, answer basic advising questions and help students in pre and post-test advising meeting tasks
  • Engage students and parents in the waiting area with educational discussion and activities
  • Help with retention activities including retention alert and advising phone calls
  • Answer phones and cover front desk as needed
  • Use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems
  • Use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree preferred
  • One year experience in an office setting preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be positive, cooperative and supportive

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Crouching
  • Working primarily with fingers to pick, pinch, type, etc.
  • Hearing, Talking, Visual Acuity
  • Mental Acuity
  • Walking

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:        

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms; use of safe work place practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic signals when driving. 

 

SALARY:

This part-time Grade 5 position is $14.41 per hour.
