Press Release

Westminster, Md., February 26, 2019— Miller Resources for Entrepreneurs, a service of Carroll Community College (Carroll), presents Get Business Now!, an annual free event that draws business leaders, government officials and entrepreneurs from across Carroll County and the state, on March 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bollinger Family Conference Center (Room K100) on the College’s campus in Westminster.

“We are so pleased to host this event that brings both existing small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to a day of learning and networking,” said Tom Mazerski, Director of Miller Resources for Entrepreneurs. “The name, ‘Get Business Now’ is more than a title; it is the result our attendees are looking for as they drive their passion for an idea into business results.”

Kelly M. Schulz, Maryland’s newly appointed Secretary of Commerce, will deliver this year’s keynote address, “Maryland’s Ongoing Support for Entrepreneurs and Small Business.” Prior to this appointment, Schulz was the state’s Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for four years. She also represented Frederick County in Maryland’s House of Delegates from 2011 to 2014.

“Carroll County epitomizes our state’s slogan “Open for Business,’” said Schulz. “I am so excited to participate in this event that will help small businesses thrive, drive entrepreneurship, and encourage partnerships between the business community and local government.”

The morning portion of the conference will feature expert speakers on the following topics:

  • “State Procurement Overview” - Alison Tavik, Director of Communication, Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs
  • “State Resources for Small Businesses” - Tamar Osterman, Senior Business Development Representative, Maryland Department of Commerce
  • “Insight into the Loan Process” - Randy Croxton, Sr. Vice President, MMG Capital Group
  • “Cyber Security and Small Business” - Mark Miraglia, Cyber Program Manager, Maryland Department of Commerce and Tom Ashoff, Sr. Vice President of Engineering, ThreatQuotient
  • “Social Media Strategies for Small Business Owners” - Martine Foreman, CEO Foreman Media Group and Adjunct Faculty Member, Miller Resources for Entrepreneurs

The afternoon will feature the Procurement Fair, where attendees can meet face to face with procurement officials from the state and county as well as small business loan managers from local banks and private funds, to learn ways that these entities can support their specific businesses.

The event is free and includes both continental breakfast (check-in begins at 7:30 a.m.) and lunch, which will provide opportunities for networking with other attendees.  Registration is required. To register, visit www.carrollcc.edu/getbusinessnow or call 410-386-8012.
