  • Black History Month (February)

    Black History Month recognizes and celebrates the contributions and achievements of African Americans as well as important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.     Black History Month Exhibit

    Black History is happening now!  This interactive display, presented in collaboration with the Community Media Center of Carroll County features local documentaries highlighting the African American experience in Carroll County along with clips from the Center's Oral History Project.

    Join guest chefs from the African Culture Club to sample some of their favorite dishes while learning about their homelands.
    Just announced! Carroll ensemble groups will offer a lunchtime concert in on Wednesday, Feb. 14 and Thursday, Feb. 22, featuring music from a variety of African American musicians and styles.

    The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution

    This film tells the story of a pivotal movement that gave rise to a new revolutionary culture in America.  The Black Panthers’ condemnations of injustice, oppression and brutality in the late '60s and early '70s reverberate again in one city after another.

    Sons of Baldwin 
    Thursday, March 1 
    7 pm in the Theater 
    Based in Baltimore, MD, Sons of Baldwin is a spoken word collective made up of black men who love black men. Named after and inspired by the great James Baldwin, the group uses words as a tool to challenge, inspire, and build. Their poems tell the story of their personal lives while drawing on larger issues viewed through the lens of the SGL experience. Collectively, the members of Sons of Baldwin: Kenneth Something, Chris Poetryzchyld Thomas, Duke the Rude and Mysfit have performed around the country. Their work has been highlighted on LOGO, HBO and Current TV. They've performed at various universities and with national LGBT and HIV advocacy groups. It's hard to find artists more authentic, passionate, powerful and necessary than Sons of Baldwin.
