Carroll Community College Celebrates Earth Day


Westminster, Md., March 26, 2009--On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Great Hall of Carroll Community College will be transformed into an Earth Day celebration for students, faculty, staff, and the community with exciting, free activities.

"The purpose of our celebration is to appreciate and promote the Earth's environment in terms of a positive ecological effect and encourage respect for life on earth," said Maria Burness, faculty co-chair of the event.

Dr. Raza Khan, faculty co-chair of the event said, "Earth Day will also highlight the growing concern of pollution of the soil, air, and water, and the hope for a positive change to counteract this trend."  

The event is being organized by the "How Things Work Academic Community" and Office of Student Life at the college. This Academic Community is committed to exploring science, math, technology and their related fields. For more information, please call Burness at 410-386-8526.

Earth Day Activities include:

1. Interactive sessions with students (all day).
2. Interactive session with Carroll Community College's  Green Team to include carbon footprint calculations and recycled currency pen giveaways.
3. Informational displays by students of Carroll Community College (all day).
4. Informational displays by external organizations including BGE and Chesapeake Climate Action network (CCAN).
5. Re-play of National Wildlife Federation's Chill Out Broadcast held at several national colleges (all day).
6. Synthetic wood alternative pencil giveaways.
7. Free refreshments limited to students, provided  by Maui Wowi.
8.Crouse Ford will be participating with a hybrid car parked at the Earth Day event.
