Course Description
ENGL-201, Classic World Writers, offers a study of ancient, medieval, and Renaissance-era writers from varying cultures and continents, exploring their contributions to world literature. Students will study authors such as Homer, Virgil, Dante, Chaucer, and Shakespeare. Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL-101 or ENGL-103. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Course Objectives and Grading Information
COURSE OBJECTIVES ENGL-201 is designed to develop your ability to interpret texts and write clearly about literature. In this course, you will:
1. Name and characterize major voices that have contributed to the creation of the body of world literature through the Renaissance era. (GE6; H1; H2; H3; H4)
2. List characteristics of specific literary periods, movements, or themes, and demonstrate how a selected work is or is not characteristic of them. (GE2; GE6; H1; H2; H3; H4)
3. Construct valid arguments about selections of literature through a process of close critical reading and classroom discussion. (GE1; GE2; GE6; H1; H2; H5; H7)
