Course Description

OFFC-160, Introduction to PowerPoint is a self-directed online course which develops students' ability to create and enhance electronic presentations while using the Microsoft PowerPoint software package. Prerequisite: READ-091. Self-paced. Three credits. Three billable hours.

Course Objectives and Grading Information

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify common elements in Microsoft Office, use Help, open, save, and print a document, select text to edit, insert text, move and copy text, find, replace, and go to text, use the Undo and Redo commands, use language tools, apply font attributes, and copy formats with the Format Painter. (General Education Goal #4)

2. Complete introductory PowerPoint skills. Specific skills include: identify PowerPoint user interface elements, use PowerPoint views, open and save a slide show, get Help, create a storyboard, use slide layouts, apply Design Themes, review the presentation, add a table, insert clip art, use transitions and animations, run and navigate slide show, and print with PowerPoint. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #5)

3. Plan and prepare a presentation. Specific skills include: create a presentation using a template, modify a template, create a presentation in Outline view, modify an outline structure, print an outline, import an outline, add existing content to a presentation, examine slide show design principles, apply and modify a Design Theme, and insert a header or footer. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #5)

4. Enhance with illustrations. Specific skills include: create shapes, apply QuickStyles and customize shapes, create and modify SmartArt diagrams, create and modify WordArt, modify objects, and arrange objects. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #5)

5. Enhance with multimedia. Specific skills include: insert and modify a picture, use the Internet as a resource, create a Photo Album, set Photo Album options, insert movies, set movie options, add sound, and record and play narration. (General Education Goal #4, Program Goal #5)
