National External Diploma Program
You’ve learned from life. Now get credit for it.
With the National External Diploma Program (NEDP) you can earn your high school diploma using skills you have learned in life in addition to using on book knowledge. The program uses real-life situations to verify your skills in problem solving, critical thinking, speaking, writing and computation.
Some examples include:
- reading a map
- writing a letter to a potential employer
- calculating loan interest
- practicing comparison shopping
- proving you have trade or occupational or home management skills
- composing a resume
In this self-paced program, you meet with an advisor weekly to demonstrate your skills and receive assignments. The program takes approximately six to ten months to complete.
You can learn more about the program and assess your skills at a free orientation session. View the orienation schedule for a time that's best for you.
To enroll, you must be at least 18, pass a pre-screening assessment, and be able to demonstrate a job skill. The NEDP is offered at our Center Street location in Westminster.
After earning your diploma, we recognize your achievement at an annual ceremony where family and friends celebrate your success, and county and college officials offer their congratulations.
Upon completion of the NEDP you will be awarded a Maryland State High School Diploma.
