Computer Information Systems AAS

Mission Statement

The Computer Information Systems program is designed to prepare students for a career in computer technology or to transfer to a 4-year institution to pursue a baccalaureate degree. The program provides the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a successful career in those areas of business, education, government, and other fields in which computers are routinely used for information processing. In particular, the Computer Information Systems program offers instruction for students interested in microcomputer-based computer careers. The courses teach students how software and hardware interrelate to build a cohesive approach to solving problems.

Program Goals

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency with office software.
  2. Students will demonstrate proficiency with computer programming constructs and be able to develop desktop and/or web-based applications.
  3. Students will be able to assemble, maintain and troubleshoot a computer system.
  4. Oral Communication: the ability to effectively articulate verbal content, formally or informally.
  5. Written Communication: the ability to express ideas in writing.
  6. Develop self-awareness as a writer in an academic setting

Program Director: Matt Day Phone: 410-386-8022 Email: The Computer Information Systems (CIS) degree is designed to prepare students for careers in computer technology. This program of study will provide a broad background in computer repair and support, networks, database design, object-oriented programming and web development technologies. Students who select this curriculum and wish to transfer later to a four-year institution should check with that institution. While many courses will transfer, certain specialized courses may not. It is also recommended that students preparing for transfer to a four-year institution in Computer Science take additional General Education courses, especially mathematics courses in the Calculus sequence and beyond.
