Course Description

CIS-234, Developing Rich Internet Applications, explores the new category of engaging web applications being developed using tools such as Flex, Flash ActionScript, AJAX and Silverlight. Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) can combine rich media (such as video, audio, and animation) to achieve powerful data visualizations. Students will create a portfolio of their work in which they use the latest Rich Internet Application tools. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of READ-091 and either CIS-105 or CIS-132. Two hours lecture, two hours of lab each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.

MAJOR COURSE OBJECTIVES:  Upon completing this course the student should be able to: 

1. Compare and contrast the features of Rich Internet Application (RIA) tools such as Flash, Flex, Actionscript, Adobe Air, and Silverlight. (GE2, PG5) 

2. Use the Application Programming Interface (API) Reference material to look up events, properties and styles for web controls. (GE2, PG2) 

3. Identify and use the various components and features of a RIA Integrated Development Environment (IDE). (GE2, PG2) 

4. Create Rich Internet Applications that use images. (GE5, PG2) 

5. Create Rich Internet Applications that animate a graphic. (GE5, PG2) 

6. Create Rich Internet Applications that use audio and\or video. (GE5, PG2) 

7. Create Rich Internet Applications that interact with user data. (GE2, PG2)
