Professional Pet Grooming Certificate Curriculum

In addition to in-person instruction by experienced groomers, this program utilizes Paragon School of Professional Pet Grooming’s online curriculum. Students benefit from a blended pet grooming school training model that combines Paragon’s nationally recognized online curriculum with in-person instruction from an experienced local groomer.
Note: Students are responsible for arranging dogs for required practice hours.
Upon successful completion of all three courses, students earn a Workforce Training Certificate in Professional Pet Grooming from Carroll Community College.
This course introduces students to the foundational skills needed for entry‑level work in the pet grooming industry. Through hands‑on practice and guided instruction, students learn safe animal handling, bathing and drying techniques, basic coat care, and proper nail and ear maintenance. Students are responsible for securing dogs for mandatory skill practice. The course emphasizes professionalism, animal welfare, and workplace readiness, preparing students for more advanced grooming coursework.
This course builds on foundational grooming skills and prepares students for more advanced, full‑service grooming work. Learners practice the most common trims used in professional salons, along with clipper and scissor techniques and safe styling methods. Students are responsible for securing dogs for mandatory skill practice. The course also includes training in pet first aid and CPR to support safe, responsible grooming practices. Emphasis is placed on efficiency and professional grooming standards to support success in a salon environment.
Prerequisite: Professional Pet Grooming I
This course builds on the skills and knowledge developed in Professional Pet Grooming I and II, giving students the opportunity to apply their training in real‑world grooming scenarios. This practicum includes 40 hours of required hands‑on practice, allowing learners to refine techniques across a variety of coat types, behaviors, and grooming needs. Students are responsible for securing dogs they can practice full grooming services on, gaining valuable experience coordinating with owners and managing client expectations. By the end of the course, participants demonstrate increased confidence, efficiency, and grooming quality as they prepare for professional salon work.
