Press Release

Westminster, Md., March 1, 2019—Carroll Community College’s Department of Music will offer two music marketing workshops on Thursday, March 7, 2019 and Thursday April 4, 2019.  Both workshops are free and open to both students and the public. The workshops will run from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. in the PNC Rehearsal Hall Room in Room 404 in the College’s T Building.

“We are so excited to have Athena Hiotis offer advice for musicians on how to market themselves through various channels,” said Eric McCullough, Director of Music at the College. “From finding fans to booking tours and selling tickets, she shares her experience with passion and creativity.”

Hiotis owns PopRiot Music Group, a boutique songwriting and production house that supports artists and provides music for television and film projects.  A graduate of University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Philosophy, she was one of the first students to participate in both the vocal and instrumental magnet programs at the Center for the Arts in Baltimore.  She continues to write, perform and produce in styles ranging from pop to rock to classical.

The workshop on March 7, “Social Media Marketing,” will cover the basics of using Facebook, Instagram and other channels for promotion, as well as different campaign types and the best time to launch them.  The workshop on April 4 will take a deeper dive into booking events and tours, including what materials are needed, how to find compatible bands, the best ways to research venues, and when to work with an agent.
