Mt. Airy College Center to Discontinue Operations after the Spring Semester
Operations to Relocate to Home Campuses This Summer
Carroll, Frederick, and Howard community colleges partnered in 2000 to form the Mid-Maryland Allied Healthcare Education Consortium with the goal of bringing health care education to greater numbers of students. Students interested in an allied health credit program offered at only one of the community colleges may enroll and benefit from the in-county tuition rate, regardless of their place of residence.
The partner community colleges opened the Mount Airy College Center in 2012 to expand upon the work of the consortium in a centralized location. In nearly four years, more than 2,000 students have benefited from opportunities to pursue education and workforce training in a range of academic programs at the Mount Airy location, including bioprocessing technology, health information technology, respiratory care, and emergency medical technician/paramedic.
Over time, the economic and enrollment realities for the partner community colleges have changed. After much consideration, they have decided that it would be more fiscally prudent to return the center's programs to their respective home campuses. Students will continue their classes at the Mount Airy College Center in the spring semester, and then operations will relocate to the home campuses over the summer.
The partner community colleges are committed to supporting their employees and students during this time of transition. The Mid-Maryland Allied Healthcare Education Consortium remains strong and will continue. After the spring 2016 semester, current Mount Airy College Center students will continue to receive services from their respective campuses. Credit students at Carroll, Frederick, and Howard community colleges will still have the opportunity to benefit from in-county tuition rates through the Mid-Maryland Allied Healthcare Consortium at the respective community colleges offering the consortium programs.
