Carroll’s Commercial Truck Driving Program Helps Student Launch His Dream Business
For as long as he can remember, Faisal Hayat has loved anything with wheels and an engine. This lifelong passion for cars and trucks is what ultimately drove him to enroll in Carroll Community College’s CDL-A commercial truck driving program and to later launch his own car-hauling company, 410 Motorsports, based out of Reisterstown, Maryland.
From Enthusiast to Entrepreneur
I was looking for a program that was hands-on, affordable, and close to home, and Carroll checked all the boxes. It felt like the right place to start my career.
Before earning his commercial truck driver’s license, Faisal was already immersed in the auto world.
“I’d always been into cars growing up,” he said. “Before this, I was buying and selling cars because that’s what my brother does. He has a car dealership, and we always had a lot of transporters coming to our dealership dropping cars off.” Faisal also has friends who do auto hauling. All of this sparked his interest in the trade.
But Faisal didn’t just want to drive—he wanted to build own car hauling business. That entrepreneurial drive is what led him to Carroll’s CDL-A program, an eight-week course designed to prepare students for commercial truck driving careers quickly and confidently.
“Their CDL-A training program gave me the hands-on skills I needed to enter the truck driving industry with confidence,” he said.
Faisal also received a Ratcliffe Scholarship, made possible through a grant provided by Ratcliffe Works, making the program even more accessible. “The scholarship was a major help, because you pretty much take the program at no cost.”
He said the real difference, though, was the instructor, Louis Williams. “Carroll’s CDL program instructor, Mr. Lou, is amazing,” Faisal said. “He guides you through everything. He’ll make you repeat everything for the pre-trip inspection until it’s glued in your head.”
Building the Business

After completing Carroll’s CDL commercial truck driving program, Faisal wasted no time turning his new skills into a business.
“It took forever to find a truck originally,” he said. “I wanted a semi or a nine-car hauler, but the market on them is ridiculous.” Instead, he started small, buying a brand-new hotshot setup, and found the right trailer a bit later. “I was scrolling through this one auction where we buy cars through,” he recalled, “and luckily they had the trailer that I wanted.”
After months of preparation, paperwork, and persistence, 410 Motorsports was officially on the road. Faisal operates the business with his wife Shahana, who manages dispatching and helps keep everything going smoothly. “Overall, it took three to four months to get up and running,” he said.
Today, Faisal’s company is already thriving. “I haul brand new cars,” he said. “I’ll pick them up from the shipyard or the port. I move a lot of cars for Audi and Volkswagen.” He also works with customers who need junk cars moved, as well as dealer-to-residential, dealer-to-port, and auction-to-dealer jobs.
Looking ahead, Faisal plans to expand. “Next step would be, probably in a year or two, to get a nine-car hauler with a semi,” he said. “I want to put a driver inside of the hotshot eventually and keep it for smaller things, since a big semi can’t get through a residential area.”
The Joy of the Journey

For Faisal, success isn’t just about building a business. It’s also about all the experiences he has along the way.
“My favorite part would probably be all the new cars I get to drive in and drive out,” he said.
He particularly enjoys the occasional encounter with higher-end vehicles. “I gave one customer my business card, and now he gives me the majority of his cars that he needs moved. He strictly does exotic cars, like Lamborghinis, Ferraris, stuff like that. It’s fun seeing those.”
For Faisal, the road from Carroll commercial truck driving program completer to car-hauling success was sometimes bumpy, but it’s been worth every mile. “You really can’t beat what they offer,” he said of Carroll’s CDL program. “I was looking for a program that was hands-on, affordable, and close to home, and Carroll checked all the boxes. It felt like the right place to start my career.”
With 410 Motorsports growing and new goals on the horizon, Faisal’s commercial truck driving journey is just getting started—and it all began with one decision to chase a dream at Carroll.
