Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Carroll Food Locker
Nourishing our Neighbors grant increases access to nutritious food; provides nutritional education
Westminster, Md. — The Carroll Community College Food Locker Program has received $3,700 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. The Nourishing our Neighbors grant supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s generous gift enables the Carroll Food Locker to provide a steady supply of fresh produce and dairy to the campus community, strengthening its mission to fight food insecurity and promote health, well-being, and academic success for Carroll Community College students and staff. As one student shared, “The Food Locker is a wonderful place. It helps me stretch my food budget much further than it would otherwise go. My refrigerator is never empty and there is always something nutritious to take home with me.” Established in 2011 as a donation-based program, the Carroll Food Locker has grown through partnerships with several local organizations and now serves an average of 140 students, employees, and their families each semester—an impact made possible by the generous support of partners and donors.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $25 million in grant funding to help nourish communities with fresh food.
