Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Program

This hybrid professional prep course offers a foundational overview of the electrical trade for individuals exploring a career in the construction and electrical industries. Designed for high school seniors, recent graduates, and career changers, the course introduces participants to the structure of apprenticeship programs, essential workplace expectations, safety awareness, and the personal and professional skills needed to succeed in the field. Students will complete interactive online modules, scenario-based exercises, and assessments asynchronously, while also meeting one evening per week online with a master electrician for a live content review session. This blended approach provides learners with both flexibility and expert guidance as they gain insight into the responsibilities of an electrical apprentice and evaluate their readiness for further training. The course serves as a gateway to more advanced electrical training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Part 1 of the pre-apprenticeship program is a 47-hour hybrid course that builds essential knowledge and skills for aspiring electrical apprentices. Students will complete the majority of the coursework asynchronously through interactive online modules, scenario-based exercises, and assessments. In addition, participants will meet online one evening per week with a master electrician for a live content review session, providing expert guidance and real-time support. Covering the first three core topics; Constructing Your Future, Electrical Job Information 1, and Applied Codeology, this course introduces students to the electrical workplace, tools and materials, safety protocols, and the structure and navigation of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Successful completion of Part 1 prepares students for hands-on training and positions them for advanced standing in affiliated apprenticeship programs.

Part 2 of the pre-apprenticeship program is an 81-hour hybrid course that completes the five-topic series required for pre-apprenticeship certification. Students will complete the majority of the coursework asynchronously through interactive online modules, scenario-based exercises, and assessments. To support learning and reinforce key concepts, participants will also meet online one evening per week with a master electrician for a live content review session. This segment focuses on Direct Current and Construction Drawings. Students will explore the principles of DC circuits, Ohm’s and Watt’s Laws, magnetism, and circuit analysis, while also developing the ability to interpret complex construction drawings, blueprints, elevations, and specifications. Completion of this course, along with Part 1, qualifies students for a nationally recognized certificate that may lead to direct entry, interview, or advanced placement in electrical training ALLIANCE-affiliated apprenticeship programs.
