Generative AI at Carroll Community College
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, like Microsoft Copilot and Khanmigo’s Teacher Tools, generate new content based on user input and existing data from the internet and other databases.
As an institution of higher education, it is our responsibility to encourage the discovery, study and use of Generative AI tools by our faculty, staff, and students in accordance with College regulations and policies.
Mission for Teaching And Learning

Our operating guidelines provide help to harness AI’s potential to improve efficiency and innovation while upholding values like transparency, accountability, fairness, privacy, and inclusivity.
Approved Tools
Carroll encourages the use of approved AI tools that have undergone our security, risk and use case vetting process.
How to Approve Tools
While still in development, our approval process is based on current security, risk and use case assessment procedures. Each tool will be assessed by our cybersecurity and enterprise learning applications department for approval and added to our approved tools list.
Our assessment criteria consist of:
- Use Case assessment
- Tool usage duplication (e.g. do we have a tool that does this already?)
- Data Collected
- Location of Data storage
- Length of storage retention
- Price
