Safety and Family Support Courses Offered at Carroll Community College

Carroll Community College offers a variety of courses for safety and family support training this spring:

Family Emergency Preparedness
People don't plan to fail - people fail to plan. Are you prepared for a tornado, hurricane, fire or man-made disaster? You should have an emergency plan before a disaster strikes. Do you have recovery plans in place? Learn what type of emergency is most likely to strike in this area and why your family should have an emergency plan - and develop one specific to your family. Receive guidance in developing your emergency plan and formulating your family recovery plan. Invest your time wisely.

Family Caregiver
Learn how to safely, comfortably and appropriately care for your loved one at home. This comprehensive course will provide a caregiver in the home with the skills to assist with daily personal care. Topics include bed baths, making an occupied bed, transferring from bed to chair or commode, safety in the home, and adaptive equipment and community resources to make caring for a loved one easier and safer.

Alzheimer's and Related Dementia Training
The more you know, the better you can care for someone with Alzheimer's and related dementia. You'll learn how the condition affects the brain and behaviors, how to assist the patient with communication and activities of daily living and how to recognize and respond effectively to problem behaviors. The course satisfies the new-employee training needs required by Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Cost: $40 ($25 for Maryland senior adults)
