Students Invited To Participate In Random House
Book Fair Student Writing Contest

Deadline for Submissions is October 31, 2008

The Random House Book Fair, to benefit the Carroll Community College Foundation, is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2009. The Random House Book Fair will feature traditional favorites like national and local authors, book sales, children's activities, silent auction, reading resource area and more. This is the first time the book fair will be held in the spring.

Carroll County students in first through twelfth grades are invited to enter a previously unpublished short story and/or poem in the Random House Book Fair Student Writing Contest. High school students are eligible to enter a nonfiction composition (essay, memoir, personal narrative, etc.)

Each entry may have only one author and only one entry per author may be submitted for each category. There will be a first, second, and third place winner in each category at each grade level.

All finalists will be published in a 2009 Student Writing Contest booklet that will be available for purchase at the Book Fair.  Each winning author will have the opportunity to read an excerpt of his or her work on the day of the Book Fair. The contest deadline is October 31, 2008.

All entries must be typed in Times New Roman with a font size of 12 and double-spaced. Each short story/non-fiction entries will have a maximum word count of 900 (approximately two pages.)  No entries will be accepted with illustrations.
Entries must include a completed required cover sheet signed by the student author and their parent. Entries and cover sheets should be postmarked by October 31 or may be delivered in person to the Carroll Community College Foundation office, Room M261, 1601 Washington Rd.
