New and Returning Weekly Programs
Summer fun blended with learning makes Summer!Kids@Carroll especially attractive to Carroll County families. Each year, new featured camps offer a fresh variety of stimulating and engaging programs. Featured new programs include Creative Cooking, Claymation Workshop, Duct Tape Art, Photoshop, Jump and Jive and Drum for Joy, Mad Science: Science in Motion, LEGO® Robotics 2: Alternative Energy Bots and more.
Two new topics that respond to important social trends include a collection of classes that emphasize going green and Camp Scrubs. In response to heightened interest in the environment, classes about the environment will explore recycling, earth power, alterative energy, organic air, and the Chesapeake Bay. In response to the increased need for health care workers, Camp Scrubs will offer an in-depth look at the nursing profession with hands-on activities, in partnership with the college nursing program. The program is designed to interest boys in this mostly female occupation.
Camps returning by popular demand, many with new activities, include American Girl Camp, Art Attack, LEGO® Robotics 1: Bot Builders, Creative Expressions, Math Games, Super Science: CSI, A Week at Hogwarts: Harry Potter and Friends, Count Down to Flight, Creative Dramatics: Theater FUN-damentals, and more.
Kids For Peace
A weekly Kids for Peace Program for ages six through 13 features adventures that let children see the world through a new perspective---their own! Kids for Peace programs foster an understanding and appreciation of the many people who live on our diverse planet. Children explore cultures around the world through a variety of fascinating and fun activities and field trips.
Carroll Community College carefully selects instructors who offer professional expertise on a range of topics of interest to pre-school, elementary, and middle school youth. Instructors are known for their enthusiasm, creativity, and knowledge base. In some cases, participants return for the same instructor because of proven track records for "kid satisfaction."
Trained supervisory staff is available in the early morning and late afternoon for children age six and up to accommodate work schedules. There is an additional weekly charge for these start-up and wind-down times.
Parents who have experience with Summer!Kids@Carroll from previous years indicate they are attracted to the safe and secure nature of the program, the comfortable college setting, the quality enrichment nature of the programs, and the hands-on aspects of many of the sessions.
Parents can register their children for any combination of classes and are not required to enroll for the entire summer or for a whole day. Half-day programs run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon or from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Full-day programs include a supervised lunch period.
