Westminster, Md., May 11, 2009--College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo has selected 2009 graduate John Biondo, Jr. as the recipient of the President's Academic Excellence Award.
"I am delighted that John Biondo, Jr. will receive the President's Academic Excellence Award," said Dr. Pappalardo. "He certainly has demonstrated excellence throughout his time at the college. I congratulate him for his hard work."
The award, which is presented at Commencement, is a scholarship for $500. The selected student has completed at least 45 Carroll credits, has a 4.0 average, and has been recommended by the faculty to the president.
Comments from the faculty to the president about Biondo include that he is "well-prepared for class," a "pleasure to have in the classroom," and an "outstanding student." Faculty indicated that his "work is of superior quality."
The Hanover, Pa. resident is a business administration major. He is interested in a career in accounting. Biondo plans to transfer to Stevenson University for a bachelor's degree and eventually wishes to pursue his C.P.A.
"My experience at Carroll was great!" Biondo said. "A lot of business faculty helped me to decide what my major would be."
Biondo is the second oldest boy in a family of five siblings. His sister, Jeanna, graduated from Carroll, then from Stevenson University.
"When I reflect upon graduation, I feel that I did well at Carroll," Biondo said. "I am glad to be moving up towards the next step in my education."
