Carroll Community College Offers Modern Art Class
Westminster, Md., Sept. 18, 2009-Carroll Community College is offering a new class called Meanings in Modern Art. Unearth the hidden meanings of works of art from the Modern Period. Emphasis is on Modern European Art, with references to Modern North American works. The course provides a historical critical analysis of these major movements: Impressionism, Post Impressionism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism and Abstract Art. Major modern artists, such as Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky, are highlighted. PowerPoint presentations with striking and colorful examples inform and invite students to take part in the stimulating discussion. Instructor: Dr. Joseph Paul Cassar

Dr. Joseph Paul Cassar is a practicing artist, art historian, curator and educator and studied art at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Pietro Vannucci, Perugia, Italy and at Charles Sturt University NSW, Australia. He works in various media, exhibits his works regularly and brings his vast experience and enthusiasm for art to inspire his students. He received his Ph.D. from University of Malta in Art History and Criticism. He has 20 years teaching experience at high school and university level, both in Malta and abroad. He speaks Maltese, Italian, English and Swahili and has knowledge of French and Arabic.
