Carroll Community College Offers Courses to Meet Assisted Living Training Requirements
Westminster, Md., Feb. 18, 2010--Carroll Community College offers training for assisted living staff, management, and families that is specifically designed to meet the mandatory training requirements for assisted living facilities.
Courses offered this spring through Continuing Education & Training include Assisted Living Manager, an approved, 80-hour mandatory course; Assisted Living Required Training, mandatory annual training for assisted living staff; and Clinical Management in Assisted Living Facilities, which satisfies the 20-hour update required for assisted living managers.
Assisted Living Manager (course #AHE-113-A3) prepares individuals to become managers of an assisted living facility. Maryland's Office of Healthcare Quality mandates that all managers of assisted living facilities which have five or more beds must complete an approved 80-hour training program for the facility to maintain its standards for licensure and to promote health and safety for the residents of assisted living facilities.
The course is offered in partnership with Carroll Lutheran Village. The mandatory 80-hour course focuses upon all of the aspects necessary for managing facilities that provide a residence and care for individuals who meet the criteria for an assisted living level of care. Topics include: the philosophy of assisted living, the aging process and its impact, assessment and level of care waiver, service planning, clinical management, admission and discharge criteria, nutrition and food safety, dementia, mental health and behavior management, end of life care, management and operation, emergency planning, quality assurance, and the survey process.
The cost is $875(MD Senior Adults: $825). The course will be held Tuesdays, March 30 to June 8 from 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. (10 sessions; no class 5/4) at Carroll Lutheran Village.
Clinical Management in Assisted Living Facilities (course # AHE-166-A1) is approved by OHCQ to meet the requirement toward the 20 hours of continuing education training for assisted living managers. Review the role of the delegating R.N. and collaboration with the D.N., coordination of services and care providers and appropriate staffing patterns. Update your knowledge of medication management, pressure sore risks, pain management, and basic first aid and CPR requirements. Instructor: Jim Rowe
The cost is $64 (MD Senior Adults: $30). The course will be held Monday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Washington Road Campus, Rm. N105.
Assisted Living Required Training (course # AHE-581-A4) provides initial and annual training for the staff of assisted living facilities. Covers fire and life safety, infection control, including standard precautions; basic food safety and emergency disaster plans - all in just one day. Documentation of training including content and training signature will be provided for each subject area.
The cost is $76 (MD Senior Adults: $26). The course will be held Monday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Washington Road Campus, Rm. N104. Another session (course #: AHE-581-B4) will be held on Monday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Washington Road Campus, Rm. N203.
