Carroll Community College Nursing Class Educates Students at William Winchester Health Fair
Westminster, Md., On Dec. 2, 2011, students from Carroll Community College’s (Carroll) Nursing 217—Maternal Child Health Nursing course will present health topics to students at William Winchester elementary school during a day-long health fair. This is the third time Carroll nursing students have visited Carroll County schools to present health topics. The Nursing Department is planning to visit all county elementary schools in upcoming semesters.
Nursing students will engage elementary school students through interactive exhibits titled Germs, Nutrition, First Aid, Peer Pressure, Your Body, Bullying, I Like Me, Candy or Drug?, Friendship, Fun with Exercise, Dental Health, and Personal Safety. As students enter the school gym, they will be given “passports” to visit each health fair booth.
The health fair is a service-learning and clinical requirement for participating Carroll students. A total of about 600 children are expected to visit the exhibits.
