Carroll Community College Holds STEM-related Event

Westminster, Md., — Aspiring engineers, designers and artists in grades two through eight will experience the power of tinkering, building and fabricating at a new STEM- related event at Carroll Community College (Carroll). This “Maker Day event includes a full day of activity where participants attend two workshops of their choice and work on projects to take home with them. Offered in partnership with Future Makers, a non-profit which highlights discovery and encourages experimentation, creative risk- taking and purposeful play, the event immerses participants in the creative process.

The “Maker Day” workshops not only give participants a chance to make something new, but provide an opportunity to sample the longer STEM- related camps that will be offered this summer through Kids@Carroll and Teen College.

“Maker Day” will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Carroll. The cost is $55 per person and includes two workshops, plus all supplies and materials. Advance registration is required. In the afternoon, there will also be a workshop for parents, “Maker Families: Materials, Tools and Projects that Rock!” that will demonstrate how to set up a “maker space” in your home. The intensive workshop covers the concepts, tools and supplies for these creative spaces and also includes supplies that parents can use to jump- start their home “maker space.”

“Maker Families” will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and includes supplies that can be used to get a “maker space” started. Pre-registration is required.
