Online Learning


  • With more than 100 distance courses available, and a fully online degree option starting fall 2015, students can choose a format that meets their needs! Carroll uses a learning management system called Canvas for the online component of distance courses. Regular access to the Internet is absolutely required.

    CREDIT Alternative COURSE FORMATS

    Online/distance, hybrid, and blended courses are taught by faculty who have the academic credentials and training to deliver quality courses. A variety of academic support services and technical help are available for all distance students. Carroll uses the learning management system called Canvas to deliver distance courses.  

    Here are your options for instructional methods:

    • LECT: (Lecture) This section format includes face-to-face (in-person), on-campus meetings planned for the entire course. Learning will be supplemented through Canvas-our online learning management system.

    • LAB: (Laboratory) This section format can include different instructional methods. Scheduling details are shown within sections.

    • NET: (Online) This section format is taught fully online via Canvas-our online learning management system. Internet access is required.  This is an asynchronous format, which means that there are no formal class meeting times, although there may be optional virtual meetings throughout the semester. Tests may be required to be taken in the Testing Center, (by appointment- if applicable)

    • RSYNC: (NEW format- Remote Synchronous) This section format is taught fully online and will have meetings with a live Instructor via a virtual format (generally Microsoft TEAMS, similar to Zoom) at scheduled meet times each week. Internet access is required. Tests may be required to be taken in the Testing Center, (by appointment- if applicable).

    • HYB: (Hybrid) This section format has some scheduled face-to-face (in-person) meet times and on-campus activities, with more than 50% of the class conducted online asynchronously (not at a scheduled time/day). Internet access is required.

    • LESS: (Lesson) This section format has planned individually scheduled meetings with an instructor. (Students contact Department/Instructor to set up scheduled meetings.)

    • PRAC/CLIN: (Practicum/Clinical) This section format can include face-to-face (in-person) on-site meetings (Instructors will inform students of schedule details)
