JOB SUMMARY

Carroll Community College is currently seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach continuing education students in basic and advanced welding during daytime hours. Instruction focuses on introducing students to the welding trade, emphasizing workplace safety, welding theory, metal preparation, fabrication, and a variety of welding processes and techniques. Faculty will provide hands-on training and support student skill development in a laboratory environment while preparing students for AWS D1.1 welder qualification, entry-level employment, and career advancement in the welding and manufacturing industries.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

Responsibilities include delivering classroom and laboratory instruction, demonstrating welding techniques, monitoring safe equipment operation, evaluating student performance, and maintaining a safe learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience performing ARC (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), and TIG (GTAW) welding, with demonstrated proficiency in AWS D1.1 structural welding standards. Strong communication, presentation, and critical thinking skills are required. Teaching experience and additional relevant industry certifications are preferred. Candidates must be available to teach classes during daytime hours

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position involves a light to medium level of physical effort which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

• Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate effectively with students
• Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings and evaluate welding quality and safety conditions
• Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject
• Manual dexterity required to demonstrate welding techniques and operate equipment.
• Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another within classrooms and lab environments.
• Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and demonstrate safe welding practices

WORK ENVIRONMENT:     

College campus welding laboratory and classroom settings with direct contact with students, staff, faculty, and the general public. Work environment includes the use of welding equipment, power tools, fabrication equipment, and associated instructional technologies. Faculty are expected to follow and enforce all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and College policies. Work involves routine exposure to shop environments with appropriate safeguards, ventilation, and safety controls in place.
